- Impact of Obesity on Health: Obesity is a major risk factor for a range of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.
What is a GLP-1?
GLP-1, or Glucagon-Like Peptide-1, is a naturally occurring hormone in the body that plays a crucial role in regulating blood sugar levels and appetite. It is primarily secreted by the intestines in response to food intake.
How does GLP-1 work?
It is a once-a-week subcutaneous injection. GLP-1 acts on various parts of the body to promote feelings of fullness, reduce appetite, and regulate blood sugar levels. It stimulates the release of insulin from the pancreas, which helps to lower blood sugar levels after meals. Additionally, GLP-1 slows down gastric emptying, which prolongs the feeling of fullness and reduces the urge to eat.
GLP-1 and Weight Loss:
Research has shown that GLP-1 plays a significant role in weight management. By promoting feelings of satiety and reducing food intake, GLP-1 can aid in weight loss efforts. Furthermore, some medications that mimic the effects of GLP-1 have been developed to specifically target weight loss in individuals with obesity.
Medications Targeting GLP-1 for Weight Loss:
Several medications have been developed that target GLP-1 receptors to help with weight loss. These medications work by mimicking the effects of GLP-1 in the body, leading to reduced appetite, increased feelings of fullness, and ultimately, weight loss. It’s important to consult with a healthcare professional to determine if these medications are suitable for you.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Personal history of pancreatitis or a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) or multiple endocrine neoplasia, Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type-2, hypersensitivity to GLP-1 or any component of the product, & Pregnancy/Breastfeeding.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Nausea, Diarrhea, Constipation, and Heartburn. These adverse effects were generally mild to moderate and, for most patients, improved over time.
Serious Side Effects include: Increased heart rate, thyroid tumors, Cholecystitis / Cholelithiasis, pancreatitis, Anaphylaxis, worsening depression, and suicidal ideation.
